| 1931, 27th July ROBERT STEWART KIRKCONNEL MINER KILLED. Fatal Accident at Fauldhouse. A most distressing fatality occurred in No. 1 Fauldhead Colliery,
Kirkconnel, on Monday forenoon, resulting in the death of Robert Stewart,
aged 58, and who resided in Main Street. He was engaged as a repairer
in the D.C. section of the pit, and, along with two other workmen,
John Gibson and Simon Grant, was clearing a fall which had occurred
on a haulage road. While they were hard at work, another stone came
away from the roof, and, striking Stewart, jammed his head against
a hutch, which was nearby. He sustained terrible head injuries, and
death was instantaneous.
