HENRY MCGEE
PIT FATALITY AT KIRKCONNEL
Another distressing Fatality occurred at No. 1 Fauldhead Colliery,
Kirkconnel, in the early hours of yesterday morning, whereby Henry
McGhee, aged 33 years, who resided at Back row, Kirkconnel, lost his
life.
McGhee was employed as a brusher in DC. Section of the colliery, and
with a workmate was engaged in repair work in “Neil’s
Dook” when a large stone fell on him, causing a fracture of
the neck and other injuries, death being instantaneous. The accident
occurred during the night shift, and yesterday the miners ceased work
as a mark of respect for their unfortunate workmate.
Deceased was a native of Kilmarnock, but had been employed at Kirkconnel
for a considerable time, and the accident caused a painful sensation
in the village.
