| 1935, 10th June ROBERT ALLAN KIRKCONNEL COLLIERY FATALITY. A distressing fatality occurred in No. 3 Fauldhead Colliery, Kirkconnel, at a late hour last night. The victim was Robert Allan, aged 23 years, who resided with his parents at Riverside Terrace, Kellobank. He was employed as a haulage man, and was working on the afternoon shift. The accident occurred near the end of the shift. He was found on the haulage road by some workmen, and it appears he had been crushed against a roof support by a rake of hutches. No person witnessed the accident. He was alive when discovered, but passed away when being conveyed to the pit bottom. He sustained a broken neck. The tragic occurrence created a painful sensation and the night shift workers who had congregated at the pithead returned home as a token of respect to their unfortunate comrade. The day shift on Tuesday morning acted in a similar manner. Deceased was a likeable young man, popular with his companions, and highly esteemed in the colliery for his courteous and obliging manner. Much sympathy is extended to the bereaved parents and members of their family.
