| 1930, 2nd September ROBERT LORIMER SANQUHAR MINER’S DEATH The news that Robert Lorimer, the young Crawick Mill miner, had died in Dumfries Infirmary on Tuesday night, from injuries received by a fall of stone in Gateside Colliery, earlier in the day, was received in the district with feelings of profound regret. Deceased was popular with his fellow workers and was well known in the county for his activities on behalf of the Labour case. He took a keen interest in the welfare of Sanquhar Dramatic Society, and during last winter was one of its principal characters. His death is all the more tragic because of the fact that his father met his death at Gateside pit 6 ½ years ago. Much sympathy is felt for his widowed mother and brothers and sisters. His remains were interred in Sanquhar Churchyard yesterday, and large numbers of his fellow workers at the colliery were among the mourners.
